First time ever, India to sell naval ship to Mauritius

NEW DELHI: After importing defence equipment for decades, India for the first time has struck a big deal to the tune of Rs 350 crores for supplying a large offshore patrol vessel to Mauritius.

India, in the past has been gifting some of the naval platforms to the neighbouring friendly countries to augment their maritime capabilities. But this is the first time that India will be selling its naval asset to the island nation.

Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) that Mauritius is going to acquire from India, is built by Government owned Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd, Kolkata. The ship is capable of carrying out multi-purpose roles such as anti piracy operations, search and rescue Operation, anti-smuggling and anti-drug surveillance. (AGENCIES)
