First snowfall in hills of Kashmir, Ladakh

Srinagar, Oct 25: The higher reaches of Kashmir and Ladakh experienced first snowfall of the season with icy winds sweeping the plains causing the mercury to drop sharply.
Upper reaches of Ladakh and Kashmir including Gulmarg, Mughal Road, Zojila Pass, Drass, Minimarg, Gumri and Matayan received fresh light snowfall.
A MeT official said that a Western Disturbance is currently passing over J&K and Ladakh and it will continue to impact till tomorrow morning.

Weather will start to improve from tonight onwards and there will be gradual decrease in rainfall and snowfall by midnight. “No further rain or snow is expected till 30th October”, he said.
As a result of snowfall in higher reaches, plains of the Valley witnessed sharp drop in maximum temperatures.
Srinagar recorded the maximum day temperature of 18.4 degrees Celsius which was 3 degrees below normal.
Gulmarg was the coldest place in Valley with maximum day temperature of 10 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam, Kokernag and Kupwara recorded maximum temperatures of 14.9°C, 20.6°C and 20.4°C respectively.
