JAMMU, Jan 21: Property worth several lakhs was gutted in a major fire, which broke out in a trade fair exhibition at Gole Market, Gandhi Nagar, this evening.
As per police sources, fire broke out probably due to short circuit in a trade fair exhibition at Gole Market Gandhi Nagar at around 8:55 pm. The fire damaged around 60 per cent of stalls displayed at the trade fair.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and informed the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
On getting information, fire fighters along with fire tenders reached the spot and started operation to douse the flames.
After hectic efforts, the fire was brought under control, but till then the property worth several lakhs got gutted.
No injury or casualty has been reported in the incident, while the exact loss could not be ascertained yet.
Gandhi Nagar police has taken cognizance in this regard.
When contacted SP South Shaazad Salaria said that around 60 per cent temporary structures raised in this exhibition were damaged. He added that swift action by the police and the fire fighters prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby stalls.
“Exact reason behind the fire is being ascertained but as per eye witnesses, the fire broke out from the generator set at the site”, he said, adding that six fire tenders were pressed to douse the flames.
