JAMMU, Nov 9: A major fire broke out this morning in the Battery Bank of Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu which left the whole UPS system of the hospital defunct and aggravated the sufferings of the patients, as complete darkness prevailed in the whole hospital premises.
“The fire broke out in the Battery Bank of the hospital at about 8.15 am due to alleged short circuit,” Medical Superintendent, Super Specialty Hospital, Dr Ramesh Gupta said.
He said as soon as the fire was noticed by some employees, we immediately reported to Fire Control Room. Within 10-15 minutes a fire tender reached the spot from nearby Panjtirthi Fire Station, he said, adding the fire was controlled and doused completely by the firemen within 10-15 minutes.
However by that time the whole UPS system installed in the Battery Bank of the Hospital became defunct due to fire, Dr Gupta said. He however expressed satisfaction that no one injured in the fire.
The whole Super Specialty Hospital plunged into darkness after the fire broke out, as the entire UPS system got damaged in the fire. In half of the hospital premises, the electricity has been restored while ICU, Gastroenterology Neurology wards, Radiology department and administrative block are still in darkness, Dr Gupta said, adding out men are at work and we hope of restoring the electricity in entire hospital till tomorrow.
He however maintained that no patient of the hospital was left to suffer, as those who were on ventilators were shifted temporarily to disaster management unit of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
