The officer said that following directions from the top, an FIR has been lodged in this connection and further investigation started. He said the death of Constable Shahid Iqbal Bhat had taken place in the house of DySP Daljit Singh under mysterious circumstances due to bullet injuries on December 3, 2011.
It may be recalled that Constable (driver) Shahid Bhat, son of Abdul Qayoom Bhat, resident of Ward No. 8, Rajouri was deputed with the DySP Daljit Singh. It was then revealed by the officer and others that cop died due to accidental fire with his own gun. The youth was going to be married on December 11, 2011 and family had also distributed his wedding cards. Chhanni Himmat Police took cognizance of the matter then and the case was later hushed up with the influence of some police officers. The family of the victim moved from pillar to post in last 14 months but nothing happened.
About two weeks earlier, the Rajouri citizens in a press conference build up pressure and pleaded the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and DGP Ashok Parsad to take cognizance of the matter and provide justice to the family by punishing the guilty. They alleged that it was clear murder and some senior police officers were trying to hush up the matter just to save their skin.
