Srinagar Aug 6: Police have registered a case against Congress leader Imtiaz Parray for slapping and threatening a lady doctor last night at Community Health Centre (CHC) Hajan in North Kashmir district of Bandipora.
Parray, son of former militant leader turned counter-insurgent turned politician and former Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Muhammad Yusuf Parray alias Kukka Parray had gone to CHC Hajan during night to treat her mother.
The Superintendent of Police Bandipora, Bashir Ahmad, told Excelsior that a lady doctor today lodged a complaint against Imtiaz Parray for slapping and harassing her during night duty at CHC Hajan last night. He said that police have registered a case against Parray and are investigating the matter.
A Police officer, however, said that two cases have been registered in the incident – one against Parray (FIR No. 83/2014 dated 06-08-2014) on charges of assault and harassment of lady doctor and second against lady doctor (FIR No. 84/2014 dated 06-08-2014).
Dr Rehana told Excelsior that she was slapped, abused and threatened by Parray for not treating her mother during night at a private medical shop outside the hospital.
Giving details of the incident the lady doctor said that a woman attendant of a patient came to the hospital at around 11 a.m. “She asked me to accompany her out of the hospital and treat her ailing mother at a private medical shop outside hospital. I refused to come out of hospital and told her to bring the patient inside. The woman attendant hurled abuses at me before leaving the hospital”, she said.
Dr Rehana said that she immediately came back along with her brother. “Her brother asked me why didn’t I come out to examine her mother. He asked my name and address. He threatened to kill me. He told me that they can do anything. He also abused me”, said Rehana.
Dr Rehana said that she went for dinner to doctor’s night room at around 11:30 p.m. “I was having dinner and had locked the room from inside. Suddenly someone knocked the door and tried to break it. I opened the door and saw few men led by Imtaiz Parray. He behaved rudely with me. He pushed me, I told her not to push me and he wanted to know why didn’t I came out to treat her mother. I told him that I am not answerable to him. He pushed me, slapped me and pulled me by my hair. He told me that he will set ablaze the hospital. I removed my sleepers to defend myself and by then the men with him intervened. I asked my driver we will go to Police Station to register a complaint but driver refused to come out during night”, she added.
Imtiaz Parray, however, told Excelsior that her mother was ill and she was having multiple problems including high blood sugar. “I took her to hospital at 10:30 p.m. We asked the lady doctor to come out and treat her. She refused saying I can’t treat an Ikhwani. The doctor slapped my sister and pulled her hair. She ran after me with sleepers in her hand. I left the hospital and took my mother to Sumbal hospital. I went to police and lodged a complaint against the doctor”, he added.
