Srinagar, May 26: Legal Metrology officials today slapped a fine of Rs 50000 on an oil company in Pulwama and a cement factory for violating packaged commodities norms.
“Assistant Controller headed a team of executives of the department to conduct surprise inspection of different petrol pumps. And found at a petrol pump that lubricant packages of a reputed company were offered for sale without label of maximum retail price (MRP),” an official statement said.
The statement said a notice was issued to the defaulter company. A representative of the company attended the office of the Assistant Controller and confessed to the guilt. The Assistant Controller imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on the company.
“In another case, a cement factor was also slapped a fine of Rs.10,000 for selling a 50kg bag of cement which was short by 2.7kg,” the statement said.
It said non-displaying, altering MRP or smudging it is a serious offence under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodity) Rules, 2011.
