This has reference to the news item, ‘Govt to ramp up autonomy of higher education institutions’ DE Oct 4.
The decision of Education Minister to give more financial autonomy to State’s universities is a step in right direction.
The financial constraint in the universities is one of the major causes of poor performance and lack of infrastructure in these institutions. The casualty usually becomes research programmes which do not get proper financial allocation. With the result, no substantial output comes. The financial autonomy will allow HoDs to allocate as per their needs, and will save lot of time as they will not be at mercy of babudom. Who creates unnecessary proceedures and hurdles.
If financial autonomy is granted, it will help in reforming the higher education sector in the State which is really a need of the hour.
The Government must grant financial autonomy to these universities to carry on their agenda.
