Final electoral rolls published, voters near 8.5m

JAMMU, May 27: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir PK Pole today published final electoral rolls for the Union Territory culminating the exercise of Special Summary Revision which lasted nearly two months.
While the CEO office is yet to release the figures officially, the voter count in Jammu and Kashmir has reached close to 85 lakh, officials told the Excelsior.
They said the CEO office might release the figures on Monday as Pole is out of station on an official engagement.
However, as per official schedule of Special Summary Revision, all 20 Deputy Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir have published the final electoral rolls today.
Prior to Special Summary Revision for Jammu and Kashmir ordered by the Election Commission of India on March 28 this year, the Union Territory’s voter count stood at 83.59 lakh. The figures were based on Special Summary Revision of last year which were released on November 26, 2022.
As per the officials, Jammu and Kashmir’s voters were not close to 8.5 millions.
However, exact figures are expected to be released by the CEO office on Monday.
“All 20 Deputy Commissioners have submitted their data based on Special Summary Revision to the CEO office,” the officials said.
The Election Commission of India has ordered Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls for Jammu and Kashmir on March 28 this year and final rolls were to be published on May 10. Later, the dates were revised and final rolls publication schedule was fixed as May 27.
Jammu and Kashmir presently has 83,59,771 electors. Out of them, 42,91,687 are male, 40,67,900 are females and 184 are Third Gender. The Electoral Population Ratio has increased from 0.52 to 0.58 during the Special Summary Revision which was completed in November last year. Gender ratio of the final electoral rolls had increased from 921 to 948.
This was for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that more than 11 lakh names were included in a single Special Summary Revision period last year. The names included corrections, deletions on different accounts etc.
