KATRA, Aug 29: The holy town Katra, base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, has virtually turned into a heap of garbage due to ongoing strike by Safai Karamcharis.
Filth and heaps of garbage are seen here and there from Katra town up to the Ban Ganga area.
The Safai Karamcharis of Municipal Committee Katra are on strike to press the Government and authorities to concede their demand of releasing salary, pending from the last 5 months.
The president of the Safai Karamcharis, namely Kala, said that administration was using divide and rule policy between the permanent and casual employees as they give salary to permanent employees but not to casual employees.
The protesting employees also threatened to resort to harsh steps if their demands are not conceded.
