JAMMU, Jan 3: Joint Action Committee (General Category) held general body meeting convened by Ved Prakash Sharma, Convenor under the chairmanship of Vinod Gupta, President, Central Mahajan Sabha. Narayan Singh, President Rajput Sabha besides employees and other delegates from civil society participated in the meeting.
The meeting was held to take stock of ongoing movement regarding abolition of Reservation in Promotions and to chalk out further strategy in this regard.
After thorough discussions among Sabha heads and other delegates it was unanimously decided to impress upon the Government for prompt filing of reply in Supreme Court on the subject issue as the time of 4 weeks is going to lapse on January 12. Further it was decided that a seminar/convention will be organised by JAC on January 10 at Jammu to spread awareness among general category masses about their right to equality on the issue of “No Reservation in Promotions”. The eminent personalities of State which includes Retired Judges, Bureaucrats, Educationists, Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers and other prominent personalities will share their views and experiences on this issue during the seminar.
The speakers said that JAC believes that Reservation in Promotions is infringement of Right to Equality and various States like Uttar Pradesh have already implemented the Supreme Court orders on this issue and given relief to thousands of general category people. It is emphasized vehemently that Government of Jammu and Kashmir should take every measure to defend the High Court judgment during the proceedings at Supreme Court and any action of Government against general category will invite wide spread public wrath electorally for the incumbents.
