SRINAGAR, Dec 4: The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) expressed profound regret today over a significant fire incident that ravaged the industrial unit, M/s Farooq Wooden Furniture, in the Kanlibagh area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The FCIK spokesperson conveyed that the fire, erupting during the night between December 3 and 4 , led to the destruction of buildings, plants, machinery, finished and semi-finished furniture, as well as raw materials.
“The estimated property loss has been reported to exceed Rs 250 lakhs. The affected industrial unit, distinguished as one of the leading furniture units in Baramulla, employed over 50 workers,” he said.
A delegation from FCIK, under the leadership of its President Shahid Kamili, conducted a visit to the damaged unit today to comprehensively assess the extent of the devastation. “President Kamili, representing the apex organization, extended his deepest sympathies and assured unwavering support to the unit’s promoters, Farooq Ahmad and his brother, for the process of rehabilitation,” he said.
He said FCIK has officially brought forth the matter of rehabilitating the affected unit with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo. “They have earnestly requested potential government support to safeguard the industrial unit and preserve the employment opportunities it provided for over 50 individuals,” he said.
