FCI workers suspend work

JAMMU, Nov 27: Food Corporation of India (FCI) workers under the banner of Food Corporation of India (FCI) Workers Union today suspended work in protest against tendering of direct delivery of the food grains through road movement outside the State instead of railways, which cost very low in fare as compared to the trucks movements by road.
Addressing the gathering, leaders of the union alleged that the General Manager seems to be bent upon destitution the FCI workers as he has started taking food grains direct from Punjab through trucks by road movement from April instead through railways.
They said that this practice will cause loss in crores of rupees to FCI and moreover the workers of FCI will have to face lot of hardships, as they are being made to sit idle.
The management prefers to carry food grains direct from Punjab to the valley as well as depots to fill their pockets as per their will and choice, for which whole of the affairs has been taken under their direct control instead of the officers of the new Godown Jammu, they said, adding, that not only this the local mills in the State are also pressurized to take food grains direct from Punjab contrary to the settled procedure of taking the good from the Rail Head Complex, Jammu.
They said that the issue needs to be solved immediately, for which higher authorities as well as investigation agencies are requested to intervene in this burning issues and to save the un warranted FCI exchequer.
Those who addressed the gathering were HC Sharma, vice president, Jamat Ali, Vijay Kumar, Charanjit Singh, Yaqub Hussain and others.
