FC Finance sets deadlines for completion of projects in Leh

Leh, June 24: As a part of ‘Back to Village’ programme, Financial Commissioner, Finance Department Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta held a meeting with the Panchayat members and villagers of Saboo village today.
Residents expressed serious concern about pollution problem and growing menace of stray dogs due to lack of management at the nearby located garbage dumping ground. Mehta assured to discuss the matter with Deputy Commissioner, Leh.
Two drinking water projects under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) which are likely to cater to 341 households, are 80% incomplete. Mehta told PHE Department to complete the remaining work by August 15 and ensure commission of the project.
Also, water reservoirs started by Rural Development Department at Saboo-Phu for water storage in winter months for irrigation purpose is incomplete due to lack of funds Financial Commissioner suggested for completion of the work through convergence with other departments.
Villagers also demanded completion of the community play ground to which the FC Mehta gave instructions for completion of the ground levelling to Rural Development Department by July end.
Villagers further apprised the Financial Commissioner that agriculture is their prime source of income with main cultivation of potatoes that are supplied to the Army, and now the supply of potato becoming more problematic due to complicated norms set by the Army. On enquiring about the cold storage status, he was told that this project is going on under languishing projects, to which he gave instructions that this must be completed by ending September, 2019.
Taking serious note of the villagers’ being unaware about various important centrally sponsored schemes related to banks, FC gave strict instructions to SBI Lead Bank officials to conduct awareness programmes on massive scale about various schemes in collaboration with Block Development Office Leh targeting mainly the unemployed youth.
In the evening, FC also visited Project “Tsangda” at Choglamsar village which was initiated with the aim of sustainable waste management in rural pockets of Leh district. It is the first ever waste segregation centre where garbages from the local residents and shops are collected and renewed into income.
Later, FC also inspected various major pending projects in Leh including Ice Hockey Rink, Cold Storage Facility and Open Stadium and DC Leh Avny Lavasa and ADDC Leh Moses Kunzang and engineers updated FC about these projects.
