Fb, Instagram, WhatsApp shutdown perturbs users

NEW DELHI: Social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp underwent technical issues on Sunday morning as users worldwide complained that they could not access their accounts, with news feeds refusing to refresh and the main Facebook.com domain unavailable for more than two hours.

According to Downdetector, a website that monitors outages, “The site showed there had been more than 7,700 incidents of people reporting issues with Facebook at its peak.”

Facebook experienced one of its longest outages in March, when some users had trouble accessing the site for more than 24 hours.

The outage monitoring website also showed that, at the peak on Sunday, there were more than 3,000 incidents of people reporting issues with WhatsApp and 7,000 with Instagram. Downdetector.com’s live outage map showed that the issues were mainly in Europe, Asia and the US.

WhatsApp messages were also unable to be sent or received, and users of Facebook’s main services (Facebook owns Instagram and WhatsApp) headed to Twitter to share that they were having issues. Messenger, Facebook’s chat service, was also down for more than two hours. (AGENCIES)
