JAMMU, May 5: The farmers in Jammu region suffered a heavy loss as their standing ripe wheat crop was totally damaged due to yesterday’s hailstorm.
Besides the standing wheat crop, the standing vegetables, fruit trees, other plants and pulses also suffered a heavy damage in different parts of Jammu region due to hail storm yesterday.
The farmers said that entire Rabi crop was damaged even the Kharif crop which was sown in April also suffered a heavy damage. The farmers have made an appeal to Government to issue directives to Revenue Department to make an assessment of the damage and pay compensation to farmers accordingly.
The farmers said that entire crop was damaged in the Jammu region and their hopes have been dashed to ground. They also demanded that the farmers be given subsidy on seeds, fertilizers, pesticides etc.
