Farmers made aware of ‘Weather based Agroadvisory Services’

RAJOURI, Jan 30: One day farmer awareness programme on “Weather based agroadvisory and its impact on agricultural sector” was held at Block Siot of district Rajouri by Agro-meteorological Field Unit (AMFU), RARS, Rajouri of SKUAST – J, here today.
The awareness programme was initiated under the guidance of Dr J P Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST -Jammu. The main objective of the programme was to help farmers to manage weather related uncertainties in day to day agricultural activities particularly during rabi season.
Dr  Vinod Gupta, Incharge, RARS, Rajouri,  motivated the farmers to take maximum advantage from this awareness programme as well as the services provided by the RARS, (SKUAST – J), Rajouri.
Dr Mahender Singh, Head and Nodal Officer, Agromet Research Centre, SKUAST – Jammu, gave detailed information on role of medium range weather forecast in agricultural crops under mid-hill conditions of J & K.
Dr Rohit Sharma, Technical Officer (Agro-meteorology) gave information on importance of agromet advisory services. He said that more than 4500 farmers have been linked by AMFU, Rajouri with weather based SMS service run by IMD, New Delhi and are getting regular weather updates and forecasts that will help them in performing agricultural operations.
Dr Vikas Sharma, (Scientist, Agronomy) focused on agronomic practices taken in various rabi crops in the area. Dr Deepak Kumar, Scientist, RARS, Rajouri emphasized on the role of weather factors on disease development and their management in wheat and mustard crop.
