JAMMU, Aug 10: In order to promote horticulture in border areas and keeping in view immense potential and suitable agro climatic conditions, a team headed by Sandeep Gupta, District Level Subject Matter Specialist (Pomlogy) Jammu conducted farmers awareness-cum-interaction programme at Battal Panchayat of block Khour today.
Amit Saraf, Horticulture Development Officer, PRI members besides large number of farmers of the area participated.
While addressing a gathering of farmers, Sandeep Gupta educated them about the various schemes for plantation of fruit crops to establish orchards with the assistance of the department. Since, rainy season is going on and this is the most suitable time for plantation of fruit crops, he asked farmers to come forward, associate with the department, keep a close liaison with the field functionaries and take maximum benefit of the departmental schemes.
He urged farmers to adopt integrated farming in their fields and avail the benefits on different components viz: bore well, water harvesting tanks, drip irrigation, mechanization, protected cultivation, tools & implements etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status.
Earlier, Horticulture Development Officer, Khour Amit Saraf elaborated in detail about the various centrally and UT sponsored schemes of the department. He also briefed the farmers about the technical aspects of fruit plantation and importance of horticulture sector in employment generation.
