Farmers associations concerned over mismanagement of agri sector

JAMMU, June 5: Various farmers associations from Jammu region  in a joint meeting here, today have expressed unhappiness and grave concern over the mismanagement of agriculture sector in the State in general and Jammu province in particular with the results the progrgressive farmers of this region have been put to many hardships.
The meeting said that failure of the Government to run the agriculture department on scientific basis has been the cause of farmers worry and the slogan more crop per drop can’t prove results in this State till proper attention is paid to run the Department on scientific basis.
The meeting was attended by Tajinder Singh of J&K Kissan Council, Kulbushan Khajuria president J&K Agri Entrepreneurs Association and Dev Raj Choudhary president Basmati Growers Association in which the issues confronting the farmers of the region were discussed threadbare.
The meeting was of the considerate opinion that discontent among the agriculture officers and employees due to decades long stagnation and thrusting of non technical people as the heads of the Department by ignoring the in service technical hands has been also a cause of the problem.
The meeting in an appeal to Government in general and Agriculture Minister of the State urged them to look into the basic issues in case they want to give impetus to the agriculture in the State.
They said the catchy slogans can’t be achieved unless and until this crucial sector comprising of 70 percent of the total population is not nurtured properly.
They demanded that the Head of the Department should be a technical hand by promoting the senior most officers of the Department who is well versed with the knowledge and background of agriculture and allied sectors, reorganization of the Department, introduction of diversified consultant based farming , strengthening and supporting agriculture profession by way of restructuring, filling up all vacancies, HR Development, giving technocrats pride of place and ending bureaucratic apathy and giving emphasis on scientific irrigation for more crop per drop etc.
