RAJOURI, July 20: Within just three days after a patient died in Government Medical College Hospital Rajouri following which his family members staged a protest demonstration alleging unavailability of specialist doctors to attend serious patient, another family of Rajouri projected a grim picture terming it a ‘nightmare’ when they visited hospital for treatment of their seriously ill family member.
Talking to media-persons here today, Dr Zakir Choudhary, a resident of Kheora area of Rajouri recounted `horror of events’ when his brother was made to wait for hours for an urgent surgery at the GMC Hospital on Saturday evening.
“On 18 July, one of my brothers, Mohammad Amin was admitted in hospital at 3 PM due to blunt abdomen trauma and clinical investigations were on trial from 3 PM to 8 PM after which the doctors diagnosed perforation in intestine and decided to go for immediate operation,” Dr Zakir said.
“But when a call was made to anesthesia doctor, she refused to come up taking everyone by surprise,” he added.
“We requested her many times but she didn’t agreed till 2 AM and at a time when my entire family was in a helpless state as one of our family members was suffering badly,” patient’s brother alleged.
“Two consultant surgeon namely Dr Zakir and Dr Mansoor were in ready state since 8 PM to conduct life saving surgery but concerned Anaesthesia doctor kept on refusing and insisted to refer the patient to GMC Jammu,” Dr Zakir said.
Zakir claimed to have contacted all seniors of hospital including Medical Superintendent, Principal and others but for no result and even HoD of the department was unavailable to be contacted.
Further recounting the sequence of events of that nightmarish situation, Zakir said that they even decided to shift the patient to GMC Jammu at 3 AM but were taken by a surprise as authorities and doctors present on duty informed about unavailability of ambulance.
” After we contacted different quarters and doctors and requested for their intervention to save a precious human life, the said doctor of Anaesthesia agreed to respond to call for emergency and thereafter surgery was conducted,” he added.
“We are not having adequate words to narrate the harrowing experience of that night when we actually came to know why state of affairs in elite GMC and Associated Hospital Rajouri are under question mark,” Dr Zakir further said demanding Lieutenant Governor Administration to change the entire hospital management and administration with immediate effect and to take all corrective measures for improvement of patient care in hospital and to prevent further deterioration of same.
Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Yaqoob said that matter came to his notice today and he will inquire into the whole matter. He further maintained that Principal GMC and the concerned HOD are the right persons to respond on the subject.
