This has reference to the news item ‘Employee confesses purchasing PG degree’ DE Sep 27. With the onset of militancy in 1990, started the process of getting fake degrees by students from dubious universities in the country. Almost every department where higher qualification is a pre requisite for promotions is afflicted with this malaise. Education Department is the worst hit. Though the process of getting these degrees stopped to some extent, after the present Government launched a screening drive in the State. Those who had fake degrees had egg on their faces. But lot remains to be done in this direction.
The fake degree holders created many hurdles during promotions. Many genuine degree holders got relegated to background, while fraudesters secured promotions.
The Government must come down heavily on those who possess these degrees. The concerned authorities should direct all departments to identify all those having fake degrees, and purge the Departments for the good of society.
