SURANKOTE, July 6: The police seized fake currency worth  Rs 2.53 lakh in new notes denomination  and arrested two persons including a shopkeeper in this connection at Surankote town of  district Poonch today.
A senior police official told the excelsior that acting on a tip off,  a police team led by SDPO Surankote, Asgar Ali Malik conducted raid at a Maniyari shop of one Mohd Tariq, son of Muzaffar Khan, resident of Lasana, at main market Surankote today and recovered  114 notes of 2000 denomination and 50 notes of 500 denomination.
The trader was arrested by police. After his interrogation, the police then arrested one Jahangir Hussain, son of Mohd Afzal Shah, resident of Sanei village in Surankote. The police also recovered 50 capsules of toxic nature from his possession.  A case FIR No. 117/ 2017 was registered in this connection by police.
Further investigation was in progress. The police is expecting more arrests and recovery in near future. The trader used to sell ‘currency garlands’ at his Maniyari shop  with the inclusion of some fake notes, police said.
