Explore possibility of digitization of old records too: DyCM to MVD

JAMMU, May 9:  Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today asked the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) to explore the possibility of digitization of its old records to achieve full computerization.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who heads the Transport Department along with the Industries and Commerce Departments, directed the authorities to work out a comprehensive plan to attain the target of full digitalization.
Kavinder Gupta was interacting with the senior functionaries of MVD during a surprise visit to Regional Transport Office, here today.
“The e-governance and on-line services are considered as the key to enforce complete transparency in working of Government departments. After fully switching to online service mode, the second challenge for the Transport Department is to post entire old record online” the DyCM asserted.
He asked the department to send a proposal to the Government for outsourcing or hiring private expertise for the job, if needed.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister went around various sections of RTO office and interacted with the officials and service seekers. He expressed satisfaction over the working of this vital office of Transport Department, particularly in the backdrop of majority of its service having been made available on-line. However, he said that there is always scope for improvement and asked the functionaries to fill the gaps, if any, so that   public get full benefit of the e-services.
He directed the Regional Transport Officer to immediately add on   additional counter for uploading online photos and other related formalities for the ease of public.
He further directed to improve the functioning to reduce the waiting period for which public in general has complained.
