Expert panel of DDH2020 chooses Dr Raman Parkesh

JAMMU, Dec 13: The expert panel of Drug Discovery Hackathon 2020 (DDH2020) has chosen Dr. Raman Parkesh.
A handout stated that DDH2020 is a first of its kind national initiative for supporting the drug discovery process in India.
It is a joint programme of Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council, Ministry of Human Resource Development, All India Council for Technical Education and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and is supported by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, MyGov and other private players.
Dr. Raman Parkesh, son of the soil, currently holds Principal Scientist position in Institute of Microbial Technology, a premier CSIR institute in Chandigarh. He was awarded the prestigious ‘Big Award’ by DBT-BIRAC for research work in venom therapeutics.
His current research interest includes computational medicinal chemistry, chemoinformatics, epigenetics, RNA drug discovery, supramolecular chemistry, fluorescent chemosensors for biologically important ions, solid-phase peptoid and peptide synthesis and development of small molecules probes for various infectious and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Raman is the inventor on the patent for design and synthesis of Nicotinic Acid Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate (NAADP) antagonist, which is now a commercial success.
Dr. Raman has published in high impact journals such as Nature Chemical Biology, Journal of Anatomy, JACS, ACS chemical Biology, Nucleic Acid Research, 3 book chapters and one patent and has won various fellowship and awards such as Oxford University Merit Award, CSIR quick hire fellowship, Trinity College Postgraduate Award, National Science Talent Promotion and CSIR-UGC net fellowship.
