JAMMU : BJP MLA Chaman Lal Gupta, who was expelled from the party in 2008 for allegedly cross voting in MLC polls, today rejoined the BJP at a function here. Mr Gupta was welcomed into party’s fold by BJP Member of Parliament (MP) and in-charge J&K Affairs Avinash Rai Khanna at party headquarters this afternoon.
While speaking to media, Mr Gupta said he was already a loyal soldier of the party but due to some circumstances, the differences appeared.
“I was told to forget the previous happenings and join the party and I agreed,” he said adding that he would utilise his political experience during the Assembly polls for BJP to achieve “Mission 44 +”.
Mr Gupta was among six others who were expelled from the BJP for cross voting in favour of National Conference members during MLC polls in 2008.
Meanwhile, more Congress leaders including former state general secretary of Congress and currently coordinator for Kashmir Abdul Jabar, state organising secretary, Rahul Fans Association Jammu Province general secretary and district Ramban in-charge Ajaz Ahmed Wani also embraced BJP today. Senior leader from Delhi R P Singh was also present on the occasion.
Mr Khanna, while welcoming the new entrants, said the faith of people had been shattered by the Congress, NC and PDP and they were looking for an alternate.
“Now, they have been displaying their faith in BJP as inspired by Narendra Modi wave. The graph of BJP is going up and the other parties are feeling isolated. It is because of the people friendly policies of the Modi-led NDA government and the concern and working culture of the Prime Minister which have made the people to understand that it is only Modi and his party BJP which is really committed for the cause of the common citizens,” he added.
He said the party’s Mission 44+ is also receiving overwhelming response as the people are eager to devote to achieve the noble mission.
