JAMMU, Feb 5: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference State General Secretary Gurdeep Singh Saini has appealed to the Government to spare the marginal farmers from the ongoing anti-encroachment drive.
In a statement, Saini, who is also the Sarpanch of Gandli Panchayat in RS Pura Block of Jammu District, said, “we hail the Government’s move of vacating the State land from the land grabbers but the small and marginal farmers should be spared by the Revenue Department as LG Manoj Sinha has himself promised that the lands of the poor farmers wouldn’t be taken back”.
“Despite LG’s assurance, the Revenue Department teams have been issuing notices to the small farmers. As such, LG should clear the air on this issue and give it in written that the small farmers wouldn’t be harassed anymore,” he said.
Saini also requested the LG to simplify the process of pension as according to him, the elderly people have been facing a lot of difficulties ever since the Government has issued orders of re-verification of old age pensions.
Naib-Sarpanch Pyarelal, Panches Pawan Singh, Somnath and other representatives of the Panchayat were also present during the press conference.
