Excise team attacked; vehicle damaged, case registered

KATHUA, June 19: Excise Department team was attacked by alleged cement smugglers near Rajbagh area of the district.
As per reports, on the directions of Deputy Excise Commissioner Vishesh Pal Mahajan, an Excise team from Toll Post Lakhanpur led by ETO Suraj Chander Singh conducted vehicles checking in Kore Punnu area and intercepted truck carrying cement.
During checking, it came to fore that the cement loaded in the truck was being illegally smuggled to Punjab with paying GST.
The Excise team seized the truck and when the team was bringing the truck to Lakhanpur, the alleged cement smugglers attacked the Excise team vehicle with stones near Rajbagh and later escaped from the spot.
In the incident, the vehicle of the Excise team got damaged, but no injuries were reported to the Excise team members.
A case under FIR Number 153/18 under Section 353, 323 and 341 RPC and 3/25 Arms Act has been registered at Rajbagh Police Station against Bagga and his associates, residents of Punjab and investigation started.
