Excise sleuths seize 8000 kgs of polythene bags

KATHUA, Mar 26: Intensifying the drive to prevent the entry of banned items into the State, the sleuths of Excise Department at Toll Post Kot Punnu near here foiled another major attempt of smuggling banned polythene into the State and seized 8000 kgs of polythene bags today.
According to a handout issued by Excise Department Jammu, a truck bearing registration number PB10EH-4516 when subjected to physical checking at Toll Post Kot Punnu by Excise Inspector, Arun Kumar who was assisted by Sub Inspector Dharmveer and Excise Guard, Rakesh Kumar they found the vehicle was laden with 8000 kgs of polythene bags which were concealed in potatoes.
The handout said the smugglers have adopted different modes operandi for smuggling of polythene in the State but the Excise sleuths have foiled their attempts. This is not the first occasion of foiling the smuggling of polythene bags in the State but earlier on various occasions the alert sleuths of Excise foiled such bids on the directives of Excise Commissioner, Javed Ahmed Khan.
The vehicle was seized with the support of SHO Rajbagh Sarbjeet Singh who was assisted by a team of policemen. The vehicle along with polythene has been handed over to concerned agency for further action under rules.
The operation was supervised by SSP, Kathua Suleman Choudhary, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Deputy Excise Commissioner, S P Sanjay Parihar and Excise team.
