KATHUA, May 13: The sleuths of Excise Department today foiled tax evasion bid at Toll Post Lakhanpur.
According to Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur, Rajesh Sharma, the sleuths of Excise Department intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number PB08CX-2845 loaded with potatoes weighting 11,500 kilograms which had entered the State from Punjab clandestinely during the intervening night of May 12 and 13 after by-passing the established toll posts.
An amount of Rs 92,050 stands recovered as penalty from the tax evader, he added.
The whole operation was carried out by a team comprising of Rajesh Chander, Inspector, Naseer Ahmed, Sub Inspector and Excise guards namely Nihal Singh, Sohan Lal, Vinay Kumar, Pardeep Kumar and Hardeep Singh.
Mr Sharma further stated that the Excise Department also detected 8,790 kilograms of forest produce in a vehicle that was being clandestinely being moved out of the State under the garb of dry dates.
He stated that both the vehicles were referred to the Forest/ Commercial Taxes Department for further necessary action under the relevant provisions of law.
