KATHUA, Dec 8: Excise and Taxation Department today foiled a bid to smuggle 4,450 willow clefts to New Delhi from the State.
The alert team of Excise and Taxation Department Lakhanpur foiled an attempt to smuggle 4,450 willow clefts from the State to New Delhi, an official spokesman said.
The clefts were found hidden under the fruit boxes in a truck, he said.
The official noted that the truck driver managed to escape while the vehicle was confiscated.
The truck was handed over to the police, he said, adding that a case has been registered and investigation was on in the matter.
He said the truck bearing registration number JK02A-6455 reported for routine checking at Lakhanpur Toll Post and as per the documents enclosed it was reportedly loaded by apple but after physical checking of the vehicle it was found carrying 4450 number willow clefts.
However the driver’s license and willow clefts and the vehicle was seized by the Excise Officials and later handed over to Police.
