KATHUA, Nov 23: The sleuths of Excise Department foiled a major bid of smuggling 420 kilograms of poppy straw to New Delhi.
As per official spokesperson, the officials of the Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur intercepted a Delhi bound truck bearing registration number JK02AC-5680, loaded with Barcian Seeds.
During checking, the sleuths of Excise Department recovered 420 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in 22 bags. Theses bags were kept beneath Barcian seeds.
As per the documents produced at the Toll Post for clearance, the Barcian Seeds were consigned by New GEE ENN Sons Enterprises, Srinagar to M/s Sani Seeds Corporation Sadispura, Delhi.
The contraband item along with the vehicle carrying Barcian Seeds and driver namely Abdul Qayoom Khan (42), son of Mutawalli Khan of Girdanawa, Baramulla, were handed over to police station Lakhanpur for further proceedings under NDPS Act.
The whole operation was conducted by the team of Excise Department comprising Varinder Singh Billoria, GL Sharma, Rohit Sharma and Vikas Anand, Excise and Taxation Officers, Adarsh Sharma, Sanjeev Khajuria and Gopal Kumar, Inspectors and Amit Sharma, Sub-Inspector and Ajay Kumar, Excise Guard. SHO Lakhanpur also remained associated with the operation.
Deputy Excise Commissioner, Rajesh Sharma warned the tax evaders/smugglers to desist from such kind of illegal activities.
