JAMMU, July 15: Excise Commissioner, T Angchuk today convened revenue review meeting of various officers of Excise and Taxation Department in the Excise and Taxation Complex here.
The over-all growth scenario of the revenue receipts of the Excise Department for the month of June 2016 was discussed threadbare viz-a-viz targets fixed. It was noticed that the revenue realization of the department remained exceedingly well during the month of June.
The total revenue realized by the Excise Department during June 2016 has been recorded to the tune of Rs 113.07 crore against Rs 98.93 crore realised during the year 2015-16. The department has recorded a remarkable growth of 14.29%. The total revenue realized by the Toll Post Lakhanpur during the month of June 2016 has been recorded to the tune of Rs 50.18 crore against Rs 43.17 crore and Rs 145.23 crore up to June 2016 against Rs 123.59 crore up to June 2015.
The Toll Post Lakhanpur has recorded a remarkable growth of 17.51% up to June, 2016. The Distilleries Wing of the department has also performed exceedingly well. The total revenue realized by the distilleries wing, during the month of June 2016 has been recorded to the tune of Rs 25.90 crore against Rs 25.68 crore realised during the year 2015-16 and Rs 71.95 crore up to June 2016 against Rs 68.21 crore up to June 2015.
On the front of Eradication and Enforcement activity, the Excise Commissioner appreciated the comprehensive drive launched by the Excise Department in Jammu division to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor, illicit distillation and other violations of the J&K Excise Act, 1958.
It was appreciated that more than 14885 Kgs of Lahan, meant for manufacturing illicit liquor, has also been destroyed in the entire Jammu Division by the Excise sleuths who have conducted surprise raids in various areas to arrest the menace of illicit distillation. A total of 935 Liquor bottles have been seized/destroyed during the month of June 2016 against 245 bottles in the previous year.
During the meeting, all the officers of the Excise Department, were exhorted and impressed by the Excise commissioner towards day and night strict vigil to improve revenue realization during the current fiscal.
