Huge pilferage of liquor during lockdown

JAMMU, Apr 27: Taking serious note of the reports regarding pilferage of huge quantity of liquor from the wine shops and stores during lockdown in Jammu and other areas of the region, the J&K UT Administration today directed the Commissioner Excise, J&K to constitute teams for the stock verification of wine shops.
Official sources said that eight teams were constituted by the Excise Commissioner today which will commence their verification work from tomorrow. Each team will be led by an officer of the rank of Excise Inspector and have two to five members.
To begin with the task assigned by the Government, the teams would launch exercise in Jammu city on Tuesday, following the lockdown SOPs. One manager/ employee of the etsbalishment will be allowed to enter the premises during the verification task. No unauthorized person shall be allowed inside during the exercise.
Sources further said that Excise Commissioner, Rajesh Kumar Shavan receiving reports about the pilferage of liquor from many shops and stores during lockdown period, took serious note of it and took decision to conduct stock verification from the day of countrywide lockdown for Coronavirus pandemic. It was also reported that liquor bottles were being sold on the four to five times higher rate than the actual one.
Excise Commissioner had ordered on April 10, 2020 that wine traders/ shop owners shall not open their establishments unless they receive specific orders from his office, because department would conduct stock verification before allowing the shops/ establishments to open. It was observed that verification exercise is time consuming and it may take reasonable time once the restrictions are relaxed by the District Magistrates. So, it may create problem for allowing shops to open immediately after such orders. Keeping in view this issue, the teams have been asked to start exercise from tomorrow. It was also decided that verification erercise will be conducted between 12 noon and 4 pm. The teams shall also verify the CCTV footage of the shops/ establishments during veridfication, the sources added.
For Sub Range South Jammu the verification team led by Inspector Bikramjeet Singh, assisted by SIs Susheel Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar, Vishal Thakur and Deepak Sharma shall conduct verification of the establishments- Ram Piyari Wine Shop Kunjwani, Ram Piyari Wine Shop Jammu Railway Station, SS Corporation WS Sanjay Nagar, Virti Verma Wine Shop Trikuta Nagar, Sakki Bar and Restaurant Trikuta Nagar, Royal Bar and Restaurant Gandhi Nagar, Radico Khaitan Limited Deeli Jammu, United Spirits Marble Market Jammu, Indian Wine Trader Trikuta Nagar, Trikuta Wine Trader Trikuta Nagar, Vintage Wine Trader Kunjwani, Ikon Wine Trade Trikuta Nagar and Madiera Wine Trade, Shastri Nagar.
Another team led by Excise Inspector, Bhopinder Singh and SI Sanjeev Sharma shall conduct verification in Sub Range East Jammu of the premises/ shops of Davinder Daluja at Narwal, Soni Brothers Wine Shop at Ware House and Pernod Ricard at Narwal, Jammu. The team led by Inspector Ashwani Kumar and SI Rohit Chib shall conduct verification of Kailash Wine shop and Kuldip Wine shop in Sub Range R S Pura and another team led by Inspector Mukul Sharma shall hold stock verification of Ashok Wine shop and Harbir Wine shop in Excise Sub Range, Bishnah.
In Sub Range North Jammu, the Excise team led by Inspector Akshay Chopra, assisted by SIs Sandeep Sharma and N R Gupta shall hold verification of Prince Wine Shop at Panjtirthi, Gupta and Company WS Lakhdata Bazaar, Friends Wineshop at Parade Ground, Sudershan Wineshop at Amphalla and Hotel Cross View Bar at Domail, Jammu.
Another team led by Inspector Susheel Khajuria and SI Vikas Sharma shall conduct verification of Ram Piyari Wine Shop at Talab Tillo, Jammu; Tarsem Wine Shop at Bakshi Nagar and Surjit Trade premises at Akalpur, Jammu in Sub Range West Jammu. The team led by Inspector Vijay Sharma and SI MM Mahajan shall conduct verification of Jagdish Wine shop Canal Road Jammu, B R Co Wine Shop Residency Road and Hotel Swagat GSS Road, Jammu in Sub Range Central while in Sub Range Akhnoor in district Jammu, the team led by Insp Anmolak Singh and SI Subhash Samotra shall conduct verification of Golden Wine Shop Bantalab, Heart & Chill Bar Roopnagar and Surjit Trade establishment.
A senior Excise officer when contacted said that the exercise shall begin tomorrow and it will be followed by the verification work in other areas shortly.
