JAMMU, May 11: Management and staff of Daily Excelsior today paid glowing tribute to late Ashok Sodhi, Chief Photographer of the Excelsior, who had attained martyrdom while covering an encounter between militants and security forces at Samba on this day six years ago.
Management and staff of the Excelsior held a condolence meeting and recalled the services rendered by Sodhi to the organisation for over two decades before sacrificing his life in true spirits of professionalism.
Excelsior Editor-in-Chief Kamal Rohmetra and Executive Editor Neeraj Rohmetra led the staff in remembering the sacrifice of Sodhi and paying tributes to him. They reiterated their sympathies to the family of Sodhi and recalled that special pension of Rs 10,000 per month, which was announced by founder of the Excelsior late S D Rohmetra, was being regularly paid to the family.
They assured the family of all possible assistance in future too.
Meanwhile, members of the media fraternity paid floral tributes to Sodhi, on his sixth death anniversary.
To mark the day, a simple ceremony was organised in the Press Club, Jammu.
Media persons from various organisations offered floral tributes to Sodhi and remembered his contribution towards society as a whole and journalism in particular.
Two minutes silence was also observed by the members of the media fraternity while paying rich tributes.
Senior media persons present on the occasion said by sacrificing his life in the line of duty Sodhi has inspired his juniors to never compromise with their work.
They said he would be remembered for his contribution to photojournalism in the State by the coming generations, particularly by the media fraternity.
