JAMMU, Feb 7: Barely after 24 hours when the junior doctors of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu suspended their 3-day long strike, an Ex-MLA’s son assaulted a junior doctor in Emergency section after a verbal duel, this evening.
According to the sources in the hospital, Vikram Singh, son of Ex-MLA, Choudhary Pyara Singh this evening took his ailing wife to Emergency section of the hospital for treatment, where a scuffle took place between him and a doctor identified as Vinod Katil, Registrar Medicine.
In the meantime, the doctors and other staff of the hospital rushed to the scene due to which the health services were paralysed for about an hour in Emergency section.
The situation was defused after the senior police officers including SP City, Shiv Kumar Chauhan and SHO Bakshi Nagar, Inspector Daleep Singh and principal, GMCH, Dr Ghansham Dev reached the spot and pacified both the groups.
According to SHO Bakshi Nagar, they have registered an FIR against the accused and further investigations in the case are on.
Meanwhile, Dr Akhil, general secretary, Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), and Dr Vinod, joint secretary demanded the administration of GMCH and higher ups in Police Departments to strengthen security in the hospital particularly in Emergency Section to check such incidents in future.
They warned the administration that if the security is not strengthened within 48 hours, the doctors would be left with no option than go on strike again.
