Ex MLA resents establishment of quarantine centre in Ramban town

JAMMU, May 22: Ashok Kumar, former MLA Ramban and senior Congress leader, has urged upon the Lieutenant Governor of J&K that establishment of quarantine centres should be out of the populated areas in the Union Territory as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
In a statement, issued here, he said that a quarantine centre has been established at the heart of Ramban town, which is surrounded by dense population and this is totally against the guidelines issued by the Government of India. Moreover, he added, there is a high possibility of transmission of COVID-19 in the peripheral areas which can turn dangerous for the people of Ramban town as the number of cases in the district is already increasing and almost all positive cases are from the quarantine centres only.
Ashok Kumar said that if the district administration lacks the infrastructure for establishing quarantine centres away from town, people can be quarantine at their respective homes under the gaze of concerned authorities only after following strict Covid-19 protocols.
Ashok further said that the social distancing should be made mandatory and maintained in every quarantine centres which becomes necessary in present crisis. In addition, he added, microbiologist along with medical team should be posted for collecting on spot sample at every quarantine centres as per the guidelines of Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Government of India. He stressed upon the higher authorities of Health Department of Jammu and Kashmir that testing results should be given in earliest so that the people who are negative can go back to their native place.
Ashok further said that there are many complaints of insufficient food items and drinking water facilities not being provided in quarantine centres of Ramban district. He stressed upon the concerned authorities that there should be soft interaction with the quarantine people along with special care, love and compassion as they belong to same human race. Medical staff should also take care of themselves and work with proper PPEs kit and safety.
Kumar stated that proper life saving medicines and other free medicine should be provided at every quarantine centres for emergency services. One psychologist should also visit for routine examination, check up and clinical care for mental health of the people in quarantine centre, he added
