JAMMU, Feb 28: Parkasho Devi – former state president of BJP Mahila and erstwhile Jan Sangh, passed away this morning after a brief illness.
She was 88 years old.
The cremation was performed at Jogi Gate and her son Advocate Vijay Gupta Bharti lit the pyre. A large number of people from all walks of life and top brass of State BJP, including Jugal Kishore Sharma, Kavinder Gupta, Rajesh Gupta, Ramesh Pappa, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta and others attended the funeral for paying their last tribute to the departed soul.
Parkasho Devi took part in almost all the agitations in Jammu and was jailed about 27 times during her lifetime. She actively participated in Praja Parishad movement under the leadership of Pt Prem Nath Dogra. She remained detained for two months in Hissar Jail during the Gou Agitation Satya Graha. She was the only woman from J&K who was detained under MISA during the Emergency.
