Ex Army officer’s concern over Govt’s apathy towards martyrs

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 23: Fifth time unanimously elected unopposed, State Director of the War Decorated India for J&K Col (retd) Virendra K Sahi, a Vir Chakra awardee veteran warrior of Jammu expressed his deep anguish over the apathy and indifference blatantly demonstrated by the State Government towards the martyrs, their widows and the few surviving gallant warriors.
He pointed out with dismay that while other States have announced ex-gratia amounts ranging between Rs 10 to 20 lakh for the martyrs of the Pakistan sponsored Uri terror attack, the State Government is silent and has no time for the martyrs from the State.
Calling it a height of non-governance, he pointed out that dozens of cases of ex-gratia grant are pending with the Social Welfare Department. It is a pathetic state with Chief Minister herself holding the Home Ministry portfolio, even the regular annuities to the widows and the few surviving gallantry award winners have not been paid this year. The Director Rajya Sainik Board has made repeated visits to Kashmir and was again camping there with no avail, pointed out the 75 year old veteran warrior.
What can be expected of this opportunist alliance where even the handicapped, the hapless old and the destitute women are also waiting for their unpaid paltry annual pensions while the legislatures seek doubling of their emoluments?
Exhorting to be considerate and functional he requested the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to pay the widows with a open heart and dutifulness and seek the blessings of the old warriors and the war widows , that may come handy to her and the State in these days of unprecedented crisis.
