JAMMU, Feb 2: On the eve of World Wetland Day, the Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing (DEERS) organized an awareness programme on the theme of the year ‘Wetlands of our future’.
An impressive function in this connection was organized today on the bank of Surinsar Lake.
Suresh Chugh (IFS), Additional PCCF, Director DEERS, who was the chief guest on the occasion, flagged off a Green March from the venue. The students of educational zone Surinsar and local populace participated in the Green March.
Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Chugh stressed the gathering to remain vigilant about the clean and healthy environment. He also advised the gathering to prevent felling of trees and plant more and more saplings, whenever and wherever it is possible.
Qayam Din Malik, Regional Director, DEERS, who presided over the function, in his key note address advised the gathering to take special care of natural sources of water.
The programme was supervised by Neha Mehta, Environmental Soil Conservationist, DEERS. Besides, all the heads and staff members of participated schools were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, a painting and slogan writing competition was organized for the both junior and senior level students. In senior level painting and slogan writing competition, all the positions were clinched by the students of Government Higher Secondary School, Surinsar while in junior level, the positions were shared by the students of Sarovar Academy, St John Convent School, Government Middle School and Shyam Ashram Pathshalla.
