Ensure timely payments

Why should there be any pendency in making payments against purchases by Government Departments and payments made on line through Government -e-Marketplace (GeM) without updating the concerned portal . Such an approach creating unnecessarily short term liabilities when there are sanctioned funds depicts utter casual approach in ensuring payments were made by time. A pendency rate of 24 per cent as on date in respect of payments through the portal as against the same being expected to be squared off within 10 days needs to be seriously looked into . Needless to add that Government purchases are mandatorily to be made though the GeM as per the standing instructions and it being quite logical as well as all procedural to ensure payments were made to suppliers which needed to be kept in mind by the respective Administrative Secretaries / Departmental Heads . On the other count too, prompt payments in respect of Governmental purchases reflect fair name of the Government in clearing its liabilities besides creating a good will among the suppliers.
