Ensure quality food under ICDS, Mid Day meal: DDC

DODA, July 26 : District Development Commissioner, Doda Mubarak Singh today convened a meeting of officers of ICDS and Education Department and directed them to ensure qualitative and adequate food as per the guidelines of the ICDS and Mid Day meal programme among the poor children.
Additional District Devel-opment Commissioner Doda G.N Balwan, Programme Officer ICDS Doda Arvind Sharma , Chief Planning Officer Doda Dr. Yassir Balwan, besides CDPOs and senior officers to Education Department attended the meeting.
DDC while stressing the need for providing good quality meal to children, said that ICDS scheme is the most unique programme in providing pre-school education on one hand and fighting malnutrition, morbidity, reduced learning capacity and mortality on the other hand. While as Mid Day meal programme is a multi-faceted programme of the GoI that seek to address the issue of food security, lack of nutrition and access to education, it involves provision of free lunch on working days for children in Govt Schools.
He said proper and vigilant monitoring of the food stores where ration is being kept in schools and Anganwadi Centres is important and the services of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) should be utilized for getting feedback from the ground level. He also said that due precautions and care must be taken while providing food to children in schools and Anganwadi Centres as it directly affects growth and development of the children. He also directed the concerned officers to ensure cleaning of kitchen sheds regularly before and after preparing meals.
DDC directed the concerned officers to ensure that good quality of food to the children in schools and Anganwadi Centres across the district under Mid Day meal and ICDS Progr-amme, and also directed them to maintain good hygienic conditions in and around the place where food is being cooked and served.
