Ensure proper hygiene in quarantine centres: DB

JAMMU, June 17: Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul has issued directions to the Government for ensuring proper hygiene in the quarantine centres.
After going through the status report filed by Sanjeev Verma, Divisional Commissioner in a PIL regarding COVID-19, the DB directed the authorities of the Union Territory to ensure that the quarantine centers are hygienically maintained and necessary facilities are provided to the persons who are lodged therein.
Regarding ensuring provision of care to dependants/families of healthcare personnel/ Government personnel/officials engaged in COVID-19 management, T M Shamshi, ASGI, on behalf of UT of Ladakh and Aseem Sawhney, AAG on behalf of UT of Jammu and Kashmir submitted that every step as was directed is being undertaken.
“We are confident that the authorities are doing the utmost to facilitate the families of COVID warriors. However, we would like the JKSLSA to also interact with the dependents of the COVID warriors and ensure their welfare and wellbeing”, the DB said and directed that a report be filed in this regard before the next date of hearing.
Regarding cruelty towards animals, Division Bench observed “from the reports before us it appears that the Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) have been set up in Jammu and are functional in Union Territory of Ladakh as well as in the Jammu province in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”.
Accordingly, DB directed that a report be submitted by the Government of Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir regarding the status of the SPCA in the Kashmir province as well before the next date of hearing.
