JAMMU, Mar 31: Former Minister and senior Congress leader, Raman Bhalla today distributed eatables among needy families of Marble Market slums in Gandhi Nagar constituency.
He was accompanied by Block President SS Datt, District General Secretary DCC Aman Bawa, Iqbal Singh and Rakesh Mennia.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla urged administration to ensure every needy person local or outsider gets food at their doorsteps.
“Ensure no one will sleep hungry. Food grains and essential daily needs should remain available to all residential locations in rural and urban areas. All poor, labourers, beggars and other needy individuals should get food as and when required”, Bhalla asserted.
He said ration shops should remain open everywhere and there would be free distribution of food grains and other items for the beneficiaries during lockdown period besides facilitating smooth transport of vegetables, fruits, medicines and food grains across J&K, adding the district authorities must enforce the implementation of guidelines and directives as set forth by the Centre for nationwide lockdown.
“However, the State and the Central Government efforts alone will not be enough. Therefore, it is important, for citizens, civic bodies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) as well as industry leaders, to come together to help the marginalized section,” maintained Bhalla.
Demanding free distribution of ration, medicine and other essential commodities to lockdown affected families besides those living under below poverty line category across both divisions of Jammu and Kashmir, Bhalla said the pending and advance wages be paid to casual labourers in J&K to fight the deadly disease in the region.
He further added that it was our collective duty to do whatever it took to prevent the spread of the virus.
“Those who we know are already in short supply of essential things should be provided with food packets or milk – based on what the requirement is,” maintained Bhalla.
