Ensure judicious use of funds, quality of works: Slathia

JAMMU, Dec 11:  As a sequel to mass contact campaign to reach out to people at grass roots level, the Minister for Industries and Commerce, S.S. Slathia today conducted an extensive tour to Kandi areas of Vijaypur block in district Samba and took stock of the pace of various ongoing development works.
During the tour, the Minister inaugurated many newly constructed road projects by R&B and lanes and drains under MGNREGA. The works  included Rs. 15 lakh link road to village Sanarki and Rs. 12 lakh link road to village Lower Potta.  The works under rural development sector included community paths in Rajpur Kollar, Kotli Rajpur Kollar and Shankar Nagar.
The Minister was accompanied by the District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mubarak Singh, concerned engineers and officers of the district administration.
Later, the Minister addressed a public meeting at Shanker Nagar and assured the people that all the promises made to the people will be fulfilled. He said the Coalition Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is committed to improve the lot of poorest of the poor in the State, for which whooping sum is being incurred on development works and social welfare schemes.
Mr. Slathia enjoined upon the officers and engineers to serve the people with dedication. He also called for judicious use of public money and use of quality materials in development works. He said people have pinned high hopes with the present dispensation and nobody will be allowed to let them down. He also enjoined upon the Panchs and Sarpanchs to associate in monitoring and execution of development programmes and welfare schemes in their respective areas in a big way to improve infrastructure and basic amenities in villages.
Block Development Officer, Noor Ahmed informed that Rs. 8.30 crore are being incurred in block Vijaypur on construction of lanes and drains, community paths and improvement of ponds. He said 60 percent of the approved works have already been completed in the block.
