SRINAGAR, Feb 16: To ensure availability of basic facilities to people and to combat any eventuality arising due to possible snowfall in Valley, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Rohit Kansal convened a high level meeting of Divisional and District Officers here today.
Among others, the meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioners of the Kashmir Valley, Chief Engineers of Power, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control and Project Beacon besides senior officers of Health, CA&PDS and other concerned departments.
Reviewing the stock and supply position of essentials in the Valley, the Divisional Commissioner was informed that the consumers are being provided 210 Kgs free ration (for six months) in view of September floods. He was also informed that adequate quantity of essentials including food grains, K. oil and cooking gas is available in the Valley for consumers.
Mr. Kansal urged the CA&PDS authorities to ensure that every consumer is provided free ration without any hurdle.
Assessing the functioning of the Health Department, the Div Com directed the authorities to prepare all the health institutions of the Valley to combat the swine flu. He urged the Deputy Commissioners, Superinte-ndents and Chief Medical Officers of all the health institutions to ensure availability of diagnostic machinery for the diagnosis of H1N1 besides ensuring adequate availability of medicines. He also asked the concerned officers to arrange separate wards for the Swine Flu cases.
Taking review of Education Sector, the Div Com directed the authorities to provide all the facilities for the conduct of examinations in the Valley. He also asked the concerned to constitute checking squads for inspecting examination centres besides imposing Section 144 around the exam centres to ensure conduct of the exams in a transparent manner.
He asked the PDD authorities to ensure immediate repair of power transformers. He also urged the PHE officers to ensure adequate supply of potable water in the Valley and also asked them to press water tankers into service wherever required.
The authorities were asked to gear up men and machinery to tackle any eventuality which may arise due to possible snowfall in the Valley. He was apprised that snow cutter machines have been kept available for clearing highways and other major roads of snow.
He asked the concerned to remove bottlenecks in National Highway widening besides removing encroachments and illegal structures in and around National Highway.
The management of Coaching Centres operating in Valley were warned to provide basic facilities to students in the Centres as per the court orders or face closure.
