JAMMU, May 1: National Panthers Party (NPP) has alleged that State and Central Governments have made mockery of democracy in J&K with no decision taken with regard to holding of Assembly elections even in the fifth consecutive meeting of Election Commission of India (ECI).
In a press conference here today Harsh Dev Singh, NPP Chairman said, never before in the history of the state have such kind of theatrics been played in the name of elections and never have the elections been delayed on such frivolous excuses as advanced by the State and Central Government to ECI.
“Such meetings seemed to be conducted to befool the masses. The fact of the matter was that neither the Central Government nor Governor’s administration wanted to hold the Assembly elections in the State,” he said adding that the Centre wants to rule the State by proxy.
Urging upon the ECI to ensure restoration of popular Government in the State at the earliest, Singh said that people could not be deprived of their democratic rights and constitutional guarantees on flimsy grounds.
