Ensure drug, terror free society: DGP to cops

JAMMU, Jan 1: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar has said that JKP would dedicate year 2015 to the people of the State and would explore new areas to improve police public relations at the grass root level. He asked the officers to improve conduct of the force at all levels towards the people of the State.
Mr. Rajendra was addressing a high level meeting of senior police officers at a meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. The meeting was also attended by IGP, Kashmir Zone, range Deputy Inspectors General and District Superintendents of Police of the State through video conference.
Emphasizing upon the officers to set new goals of public service for the year 2015, the DGP said that our thrust areas should be to make a drug and terror free society and promote police relations by improving the behavior of men in khaki towards the people. He said that we have to deliver better in the coming days and strengthen our relations with the public. People have pinned great expectations with JKP and it should be our priority to come up to their expectations. Safety of our citizens and drive against crimes should be given proper focus and elements indulging in trade of illicit drugs should be booked and brought to justice.
Mr. Rajendra reiterated that our commitment of zero casualties during maintenance of law and order, and humane behaviour towards law abiding citizens is our motive. He asked the senior officers to visit police stations and take stock of the people’s grievances and their disposal. Community policing and Civic Action Programmes, promoting sports and culture activities, are the methods to improve our relations with the public, he added.
The DGP stressed upon the officers to ensure welfare of martyr’s families and retired personnel. He said that families of martyrs should be given passionate hearing and their grievances redressed. Improvements in all areas of policing including regular interactions with the subordinates, formal inspections of police stations and other units, frequent crime meetings and accountability in disposal of crime cases, besides adoption of latest techniques in policing, are the issues which need to be given proper attention, the DGP said.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGPs, SP Vaid, VK Singh and Dilbag Singh, IGPs, AK Choudhary, HK Lohia, Deepak Kumar, SJM Geelani, MS Salaria, Rajesh Kumar, Shyam Lal, SA Watali, MA Ganai and JP Singh, DIGs, SA Beig and VS Samyal, DPT, Hilal Ahmed, Dir: (Prosecution), Pawan Gupta, AIGs, SK Mishra, Rajeshwar Singh,Tahir Sajjad, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, CEO, Omar Khan, Exn: PCD, Rashid Mustafa, Sr.ADO, BA Shah and other police officers.
