JAMMU, June 2: Member Parliament and senior Congress leader Madan Lal Sharma has appealed the State Government to enhance the benefit to marginalized communities under various social protection schemes. While addressing a largely attended public meeting at Maralian in R S Pura today, the MP demanded increase in the pension of old age persons, widows and differently abled people up to Rs 1500 per month. He asked the Government to add more State share and enhance pension of these valuable sections of society on the pattern of States like Haryana, Punjab and Goa.
Mr Sharma pointed out that in some states like Punjab and Utter Pradesh, apart from the basic pension of Rs 1500, Rs 450 are given extra for all dependents of the beneficiary. He said that this is the right of marginalized communities and the Government should deliver as per the requirement and on time also. He also demanded for sanction of all pending cases in the State and appealed to the State Social Welfare Department to float a special proposal to Government of India for clearance of back log.
The Congress MP stressed upon the need to improve the road connectivity in Maralian and other villages of R S Pura and directed the sectoral officers to ensure the quality of works and proper implementation of Centrally sponsored schemes. He informed that there is no dearth of money but the delivery on the ground is poor. The Centrally sponsored schemes are needed to be implemented properly, he stressed.
Earlier, the MP inaugurated lanes and drains at Maralian constructed under MP LADS Fund. Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Sarpanch Kishore Kumar Sharma, Rajesh Bittoo, Sobha Singh, B N Sharma, Mohan Singh, Ch Dev Raj, Rattan Lal Khanna, Nirmal Singh, Harnam Singh and Vijay Singh Chib.
