LEH, Oct 3: All Ladakh Engineer Society Leh observed a strike today against the action of nominated PDP Councillor Mohd Nasir who reportedly entered into the office of the District Superintending Engineer (DSE), PWD Circle, Leh and took away the chair of the District SE in protest against the officer not being present in his office two days ago.
In a letter to the District Magistrate, all engineering and ministerial staff of PWD, PDD, Mechanical and PMGSY sought the intervention of District Magistrate for a written apology from the Councilor. Engineers have warned to go on indefinite strike till action under rule is taken or a written apology is given.
“On 1st October, 2018, an unfortunate incident occurred in the premises of PWD complex, wherein the Councillor (Nominated) Mohd Nasir entered into the Office chamber of the District Superintending Engineer, PWD Circle, Leh (Designated power of Chief Engineer)and dragged and took away the chair of District Superintending Engineer, who was not present in his office. This incident of highhandedness of the e Councillor is highly condemnable and we all the Engineer fraternity are really hurt with this unlawful act. In addition he has lodged FIR against the officials of PWD Circle, Leh,” the letter reads. It further warned, “From tomorrow onwards, all the essential services like Water supply and Electricity supply shall also be shut down in protest against the high handedness of Mohd Nasir and for failure to take action against him by the Administration.”
The Councilor had reportedly gone to PWD office several times to demand the early construction of the compound wall of the Indoor Stadium. However, PWD engineers said that work could not be started due to not having funds which is not in their hands.
Talking to media, Councilor Mohd Nasir said that he would never consider a written apology and alleged that DSE, PWD, Leh was never found in officer for about two months whenever the Councilor visited. On asked why he took away the chair, Nasir sarcastically said, “Why should the chair be in the office for an officer who doesn’t stay there?”
