SRINAGAR, Oct 5: The engineers in South Kashmir’s Kulgam today observed a pen-down strike against the Government’s move of re-engaging the retired engineers across the UT.
In this regard, the technical assistants working under MGNREGA observed a pen-down strike against the decision and said that the move will deprive the engineers of their employment.
Scores of serving engineers of the Rural and Development Department also protested against the move by observing the pen-down strike.
The engineers said that re-engaging retired engineers will deprive aspirant and unemployed engineers of their rights and that it will increase unemployment.
The engineers have urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to revoke the order and engage unemployed young engineers.
The protesters said that when thousands of young engineers are sitting jobless at home, re-engaging retired engineers could further compound the problem of unemployment.
